You’ve been in the same line of work throughout your entire career. You understand the software system so well that you could almost design a similar one in your sleep. You’re a team leader, and everyone recognizes you as the unofficial expert, but you are never going to get the recognition you deserve. You are never going to be the boss – unless you go back to college and finish your degree program.

At your age though, traditional college degree programs seem overwhelming. Going to school five days a week and sitting in a classroom for several hours just doesn’t appeal to you. Distance learning may offer you some relief, but you wish that you could just earn your degree by doing what you do – and know best. If you could only earn a degree online and get credit for your life experience. . .

Now you can! Through accredited online degree university programs, you can take assessments and gain credit for knowledge and skills that you already possess. You don’t have to take an online degree course to demonstrate that you know what you’re talking about. Instead, you can just show off your experience and expertise to the university’s evaluator.

You may have to take some online degree courses to obtain your degree through one of these top online schools, but you can gain the majority of credits without taking tests or writing long papers. Some life experiences that are considered for college credit include military service, professional seminars, volunteer work, or specialized training courses for your employment.

You will probably be required to submit letters of evidence detailing your skills and experience. Former employers, certificates from training courses, published papers, or detailed explanations from commanding military officers all are included in the list of acceptable proof of knowledge gained from life experience. Some university degree programs may require you to take tests demonstrating your ability to understand the information taught in traditional or online degree courses.

Completing your distance learning program may take longer than an average online degree program. For those people who learn best by doing, however, the extra time is well worth the convenience, flexibility, and affordability of a life experience degree program.

You’ll be expected to sit down with an evaluator and complete a detailed knowledge assessment. Then you will probably have to submit letters proving the course work, seminars, etc., that you have attended. After that, the advisor will help you complete a detailed learning plan that will help you earn the college degree you need. And who knows- after you finish your university degree program, your next promotion may be just around the corner!
